Nestled at the foot of America's Mountain, Pikes Peak, Manitou Springs is Colorado Living at its best. Some of the first settlers in the region came to this area to drink the 'healing water' from the natural artesian wells that still run free in the town. Homes in this hillside community have a median sale price of $225,000 and range from over $1,000,000 to under $110,000. There are many smaller, more unique homes in the hills around the central shopping district to larger, more recent homes in the outlying areas.
In addition to the natural mineral springs throughout town, Manitou Springs features countless small, eclectic shops and some of the best bars and restaurants in the region. At the center of it all is the old Penny Arcade that features real old-time penny games next to modern video games. It is a great place to spend a day with the family.
The Pikes Peak Cog Railway is also located here. An hour and ten minute ride to the summit of Pikes Peak offers views of five different states on a clear day, a view that inspired the words to 'America the Beautiful'. The Cave of the Winds is also located here, which offers scenic tours into the great caverns within the mountains around Manitou; as well as the soaring 'Sky Walk'.
Many of the 5,364 residents of the area love to get on the many popular trails in the area. The Manitou Incline, known world-wide for its 1,600' elevation gain in less than a mile, is located just on the edge of town. Many residents also like to go to either Red Rock Canyon or Garden of the Gods for hiking, climbing and biking.
Manitou Springs is also home to many unique festivals. These include the Emma Crawford Coffin Races, The Great Fruitcake Toss and the Manitou Springs Colorado Wine Tasting Festival.
The primary school district in the area is Manitou Springs district 14 which offers comprehensive art, physical education, music, computer technology and gifted and talented instruction in addition to a challenging academic curriculum. Most of the students here attend Manitou Springs High School.
